  2. Command AntiVirus for OS/2
  3.  
  4. Command Software is proud to introduce Command AntiVirus 
  5. version 4.54 SP1 with our HoloCheck(tm) scanning technology.
  6. Our HoloCheck scanning technology provides improved polymorphic 
  7. virus detection and currently detects over 24,300 viruses.
  8.  
  9. PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
  10.  
  11. Before installing or running Command AntiVirus for OS/2 for
  12. the first time, please verify that your Command AntiVirus disks
  13. are write-protected. 
  14.  
  15. If you suspect that your computer has a virus, follow these 
  16. instructions:
  17.  
  18. 1.  Boot from a write-protected OS/2 bootable diskette.
  19. 2.  Insert the Command AntiVirus for OS/2 diskette #2.
  20. 3.  To run a scan for viruses, at the command line, type:
  21.  
  22.      CSAVOS2C /hard /disinf 
  23.  
  24.  
  25. After installing Command AntiVirus, perform a manual scan of your 
  26. local drives to insure that your system is completely virus-free. 
  27. This is especially important if you have not been running 
  28. anti-virus software prior this.
  29.

  33. In addition to the full version release of Command AntiVirus for OS/2,
  34. we distribute updates that are available on our BBS, FTP and web
  35. site. These updates include the changes from the last version 
  36. released but are not the full product. Updates should not be
  37. applied to versions more than one release behind the update
  38. version.
  39.  
  40. Presently, there is no documentation available for Command AntiVirus
  41. for OS/2. However, you will find that Command AntiVirus for OS/2 
  42. contains a graphical interface that is easy to use.
  43.  
  44. Command AntiVirus for OS/2 provides a 32-bit program and a command-line
  45. scanner.

  55. PRODUCT ENHANCEMENTS
  56. New virus signatures have been added in this release.
  57.  
  58. SCR (screen saver) and RTF (Rich Text Format) files are now
  59. scanned by default. SCR files are scanned because they
  60. are susceptible to some Windows 95/98 viruses. RTF files are
  61. scanned because infected DOC files that have had their extensions 
  62. changed to "RTF" can still infect other Word documents and
  63. templates.
  64.  
  65. CSAV now scans for ASCII-based viruses such as BAT viruses, 
  66. JavaScript viruses and malicious applications, and VBScript viruses.
  67. CSAV also detects mIRC scripts containing malicious code.
  68.  
  69. Better detection for Excel macro and field viruses has been added.
  70.  
  71. The scanning of MDB files is improved. 
  72.  
  73. Disinfection for polymorphic viruses such as W97M/Class that are 
  74. found in the wild is new and improved. Selective disinfection allows
  75. you to remove the macro virus and all traces of the disinfection
  76. process. In password-protected documents, CSAV removes the virus but 
  77. leaves traces of the disinfection process behind. In both instances,
  78. the original document is preserved.

  84. To update Command AntiVirus with this service pack, you must run
  85. the service pack's SETUP.EXE program. Note that only the 
  86. components that require updating will be modified.

  93. New virus signatures have been added for this release.

  95. The scan engine has been optimized for faster scanning.
  96. This includes faster scanning of a wider variety of compound 
  97. files such as Microsoft Word and Excel files.

  99. Command AntiVirus for OS/2 now detects Java viruses and 
  100. Access 97 viruses. Disinfection ability will be added in an 
  101. upcoming release.

  103. Additional support for compressed executable files has been added. 
  104. Specifically, compressed executables are scanned in memory. This
  105. allows for faster scans of compressed files.

  110. SPECIAL NOTES
  111. Microsoft Access (MDB) database files are now scanned by default. 
  112. If you determine that real-time scans are noticeably slower, remove 
  113. the .MDB extension from the Files To Include list. Then, create a 
  114. scheduled scan task that periodically scans all the files in your 
  115. Microsoft Access folders.

  127. PRODUCT ENHANCEMENTS
  128. Command AntiVirus for OS/2 can now be installed via a graphical user
  129. interface (GUI).  The installation procedure is:
  130.  
  131.      1. Open the OS/2 Command Prompt window.
  132.      2. Insert the CSAV for OS/2 CD-ROM or Installation Disk #1 
  133.         and type "Install.exe".
  134.      3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  137. The quarantine and remove processes have been optimized for faster
  138. execution.
  139.  
  140. Users can now uninstall CSAV for OS/2 by clicking on the product's 
  141. new Uninstall icon.  If you choose to uninstall, we recommend that you 
  142. reboot your system after doing so.

  161.      Macro.def files (which contain the most current virus signatures) 
  162.      without reinstalling all of the components. This method adds 
  163.      speed and efficiency to the new version of Command AntiVirus.
  164.   *  Superior polymorphic virus detection. CSAV now offers 
  165.      unparalleled protection and elimination of polymorphic viruses 
  166.      including the dreaded Morphine, Anxiety and Spanska.
  167.   *  Scanning of embedded (OLE) documents. Not only do we scan 
  168.      documents, but if an infected document is embedded in an Excel 
  169.      spreadsheet or PowerPoint document, Command AntiVirus will catch 
  170.      it and save you from becoming infected.
